On the water in Downtown Bristol, RI you will find a little piece of our maritime New England history. A Herreshoff Marine Museum wedding is perfect for those that love all things nautical. If exchanging vows surrounded by yachts, sailboats, and the Atlantic sound good to you, read on!
Chelsea and Nick’s wedding kept true to the theme “A Fisherman and his Mermaid”. Nick first met Chelsea after a fishing trip and his love of the water, and his girl, were a constant topic of conversation all night. I knew from the minute I met these two that they had that special kind of “friendship love”. It’s the kind of love that makes you laugh, picks you up when you’re down, or just lays down with you to keep you company! These two definitely had each other cracking up throughout our engagement session. I knew their wedding day would be the same.
The girls got ready in the house adjacent to the Herreshoff’s tented reception area. Overlooking the water, we were able to see the storm clouds rolling in as the ceremony time approached. Despite the rain, every nautical detail was on point. The beautifully beaded blush and ivory dress looked like it could have been a mermaid’s tail. Blush and gold accents throughout the details paired with the guys classic navy suits made for the perfect nautical look. Finally, the ceremony was officially moved from the pier to the tent. We got our umbrellas and got a little wet!
Due to the rain, we moved the couple’s portraits inside the Herreshoff Marine Museum. Let me tell you a bit about it. The museum is dedicated to the Herreshoff Company as well as the America’s Cup. We walked in to a mass warehouse of boats from over the years, each beautiful in their own right. I had Nick choose some of his favorites for photos. I know nothing about sailing, but I could really appreciate the craftsmanship that went into each of these boats. It was such a refreshing change to typical wedding portraits and went perfectly with the couple’s nautical wedding.
The nautical theme ran through all the details in the reception. The long tables with gold accents, paired with the fairy lights in the tent, made for a magical backdrop. While the rain beat down on the sides of the tent, the wedding raged on! DJ Valentina kept the dance floor packed all night. She was by far one of the most amazing MCs I’ve worked with. Not only is it nice to see a female in the roll, she was extremely professional, stylish, and damn good at her job! No cheesy line dances at this wedding!
If you follow my work at all, you know I LOVE a good night shot! I was elated when I saw that the rain had subsided enough for us to run outing grab a photo on the waterfront. Chelsea and Nick would have had their ceremony under this mast, but due to the rain we chad to go the indoor option. It was a great way to end the night getting a photo of them in the spot that they loved so much. This is also the photo they chose to print for their wedding wall art!
In conclusion, Chelsea and Nick’s Herreshoff Marine Museum wedding was all things Rhode Island. They nailed every nautical detail throughout the day. The blush, gold, and navy palette was modern and stylish. The long tables and fairy lights made the tent at the Herreshoff elegant and classy. While their wedding wasn’t huge, there was plenty of room for guests. The food was delicious and the on site coordinator went above and beyond accommodating the wedding party when the rain started coming down sideways! I would highly recommend checking out the Herreshoff Marine Museum if you are looking for a classic Rhode Island wedding.
