When I was asked to attempt New Bedford Engagement Photography, I was skeptical. I had never really been to New Bedford. Well, I may have bailed someone out of the jail there in my younger days. Although I knew this old fishing hub had some history, I was unaware of how beautiful the downtown area really is. Couples looking for a unique engagement location should check out New Bedford, MA.
I arrived early so I could walk around and find great shooting locations. First, I started out and immediately saw a simple old church. Upon further investigation, I realized it was Seamen’s Bethel, made famous by Herman Melville‘s novel Moby-Dick as the “Whaleman’s Chapel”. Simple and beautiful, the church stood atop a hill off the cobblestone street. The Seamen’s Bethel is now on my list of places to visit again. My walk continued down cobblestone roads to our meeting place.
I met with Justine and Mike at the New Bedford Whaling Museum. Although it is not their wedding venue, I know that it is a beautiful one! We walked around the small downtown area, stopping wherever the architecture was gorgeous or the light was pretty. I am a sucker for that evening sun light! The engagement session went quickly, with an amazing variety of locations. All the spots we used for photos were within blocks of my parking spot. It seems like my eyes have been opened to the beauty of New Bedford! I am so excited that Justine suggested somewhere I had never photographed before. Most noteworthy, I will definitely be putting New Bedford on my list of great city engagement locations!
