Am I Catholic? No. Have I photographed a ton of Catholic weddings? Absolutely. While I have never been a practicing Catholic, I did attend Catholic school (Go Mount). In turn, I know all the ins and outs of Mass.
A Catholic church wedding is one of the most timeless and meaningful ways to begin a marriage. From the moment you step into the church, you’re surrounded by breathtaking architecture, soaring ceilings, and intricate stained glass windows that cast soft, colorful light across the ceremony. These sacred spaces create a naturally romantic and reverent atmosphere that feels both historic and deeply personal.
At the heart of every Catholic wedding is the sacrament of marriage, a sacred covenant rooted in faith, family, and tradition. Generations gather in the pews, witnessing vows that are not only promises to each other, but also a commitment before God. The structure of the ceremony, from the Liturgy of the Word to the Eucharist, carries a rhythm and symbolism that is incredibly powerful to document.
Having attended Catholic school for six years, I have a deep familiarity with the customs and traditions that shape these ceremonies. I approach every wedding with respect, awareness, and intention, understanding the significance behind each moment regardless of religious affiliations.

Every church operates a little differently, and each may have specific guidelines. I always connect with the coordinator before the ceremony to confirm where I can stand, move, and photograph. Respect for the sacrament is my top priority. During the Communion and prayer, I take a more minimal approach, capturing only what is appropriate without disrupting the sacredness of the moment.
I also remain mindful of movement and space, avoiding the center aisle when possible and never stepping onto the altar. Flash photography is typically restricted, so I work with natural light and only use flash during the procession and recession if permitted.
The result is a gallery that honors both the beauty and the sanctity of your Catholic wedding day.

The majority if my couples tend to exchange vows at the location of their reception. This allows streamlining the timeline of the day with less worry of transportation and gaps between ceremony and cocktail hour. However, there are still many couples that want to incorporate their family traditions. All in all, whatever you choose for your wedding ceremony will be exactly what is right for you!
